Sales is a tough job, especially if you are a beginner. And if you’re working in an organization where sales matter then you are under pressure from day 1.
Unlike many job profiles, it involves interacting with people so the training can never completely prepare you for the actual job. Because people are unpredictable.
They have their own biases, desires, and expectations. Plus if they get a sense that you are inexperienced then they get especially more aggressive which makes your job even more difficult. It’s almost as if to succeed in sales you already have to be an expert in human behaviour!
And after the training is done there is nobody who will teach you how to best interact with people. Or how to win the trust and walk away with a deal closed and a happy client. You just have to keep meeting prospect after prospect and fail a few hundred times. And you have to join this on the job.
But there’s a silver lining – even though the trainer is gone, you don’t have to depend on the trainer anymore. You can actually learn from the best and the most successful salespeople in the world by following the right podcast, and carefully listening to the great advice that they give (mostly for free these days).
Then you have to apply that advice in your sales interactions in the field with your prospects. You have to keep testing and interacting to see what works and what doesn’t. And pretty soon it will start reflecting in the results that you get.
Here’s the interesting part about a sales career in India, all your peers no matter where you work depend primarily on in-born talent or advice from seniors. There is nothing wrong with that you can use your talents and learn from your seniors but you don’t have to depend only on advice from your seniors. You can actually learn from sales experts around the world who have been far more successful than those seniors ever were or ever will be.
Plus as I mentioned, you don’t have to take all the advice that these experts give, just listen to the advice, try it out on the field, keep what works for you and discard what doesn’t.
And here is the best part since this is not formal training and it does not cost anything. You can practically follow these podcasts and listen to them whenever you have time when you’re travelling to work, working out at the gym, or going for a run. Instead of playing Bollywood drama and songs or TikTok and Instagram reels put your earplugs on and play one of these podcasts. You get absolutely invaluable advice from the top sales experts around the world without having to pay a single penny.
So with that in mind let’s get you started on your journey to becoming a rockstar salesperson.
Pro tip: Even though Sales is a hard job, you can make it easy with a Sales CRM. Manage all your sales process in one app anytime, anywhere.
